A friend Sam, whom I met a couple years ago when I bought a pair of tires from him, has an Instagram account Hotdogzonwheels which has gained a lot of momentum over the past couple years. We share a lot of friends in common, and the ‘Hotdogz’ crew is largely millennial skaters who have taken to the alt-cycling scene. This growing platform was put to use organizing a group ride on a Thursday evening with risk of thunderstorms, and yet well over 100 people showed up, because there are simply too few social opportunities for the non-competitive bike geeks around here.
We rode around Stanley Park, opting for gravel where possible.
The ride finished along the beach at a hotdog stand that Sam had coordinated with to accommodate the surge in customers. It was a massive success, at least from my perspective, and was great to see so many friends in a single evening.
